Hands Off Haiti CD release

The Canada Haiti Action Network (CHAN) is proud to announce the release of the “Hands Off Haiti” musical compilation CD featuring some of the top performing artists from both Haiti and Canada- with music ranging from rap, to folk to punk rock, in languages from English to French to Haitian Creole. Artists who contributed to the project include DL Incognito, Arabesque, Mood Ruff, Grand Analog, MC Mohammad Ali, Chavanne, and even legendary Haitian singer and former political prisoner Annette “So Ann” Auguste.

This album is a fundraiser for “Sant Obsevasyon Sitwayen” (SOS), a citizen watchdog group whose motto is, “Politics is too important to be abandoned to the politicians”. Funds raised from this project may also go towards the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti.

Although raising funds for the S.O.S. and its grassroots education program by selling the compilation CDs is an important task, we feel is it equally as important to raise awareness about the situation in Haiti particularly the negative role being played by Canadian imperialism. The album features many educational interludes outlining Canada’s malicious involvement on the Caribbean island that began with the kidnapping of the democratically elected president Jean Bertrand Aristide, on Feb. 29th of 2004 – an effective coup d’etat conducted with the assistance of Canadian troops.

CHAN chapters are united by a determination to raise awareness of what is actually happening in Haiti, and the real effects of the Government of Canada’s ongoing subversion of Haiti’s pro-democracy movement, and support of and participation in the ongoing repression of Haiti’s 80% poor majority. We support the list of principles outlined at the international Kongres Bwa Kayiman (KBK) conference of February, 2005, in which Haiti solidarity activists from various countries reiterated their support for Haitian democracy.

We at CHAN have been and continue to work hard to bring an end to the shameful and criminal role our country has been playing in Haiti over the past three years and to lend our solidarity to Haiti’s grassroots groups on an ongoing and long term basis and the “Hands Off Haiti” album is only one example our dedication to this process. CDs are available by donation. Please contact the CHAN chapter closest to you to obtain a copy of “Hands Off Haiti.”
